Metrics

Vanity Metrics

Numbers that look impressive but don’t reflect real value, like follower count or raw impressions in isolation.

Vanity metrics are stats that feel good but say little about real impact — follower count, total likes, and raw impressions when viewed on their own. They’re easy to inflate (sometimes artificially) and easy to misread.

The opposite are actionable metrics: engagement rate, saves, shares, conversion rate and follows-per-post, which tie directly to outcomes and tell you what to do next.

A big following with a tiny engagement rate is the classic vanity trap — and a common sign of fake followers. Focus on metrics that move your goals.
